Welcome to Niagara Charter School

News

6/24/09

Dear Parent  / Guardian:

As part  of Niagara  Charter  School's  effort  to keep  parents  informed about  HlNl  influenza
(swine flu), please  know that we were  informed on Wednesday,  June  24th of our first confirmed
case of HiNl  at  the  school.  The  individual with the  confirmed  case  of HlNl  has  not been  in
school  since  the  onset  of symptoms.

According  to the Center  for Disease  Control  (CDC) there  is no  indication  to close  schools  at  this
time. Rest assured  that we will  continue  to closely monitor the situation and  consult with  the
Niagara County Health Department.

It is important  that  you do not send  your child  to school  if he/she  is experiencing  any  flu-like
symptoms  (fever  of 100.2  degrees  or higher  and  cough,  runny nose,  nasal  congestion  or sore
throat) you  should  contact  your child's health  care  provider  if the symptoms  are  of concen or
become  more  than mild. It is important  that  you notify the school  health  office should  you
consult  with your child's physician.  Our school  nurse  is continuing  to monitor student  health
daily, but your sharing  of information  helps  us  stay  even  more  informed.  Individuals  with
confirmed cases  of HlNl  cannot  attend  school  for seven  days  according  to Health  Department
Regulations.

Additional symptoms  of HlNl  may  include  a runny nose,  nausea,  and  diarrhea.  More
information  regarding  this  influenza,  including  frequently  asked  questions  can  be  found on  the
Niagara County Health Department  website at
http//www.niagaracounty.com/Health/SwineFlu.asp and  the  New York State  Department  of
Health  Swine  Flu Hot Line at 1-800-808-1987.

Let me assure  you  that  the  health  and  well-being  of our students  is our  first priority. Further,  we
will  take  all appropriate  measures  to safeguard  students  throughout  the school.  Please  feel  free  to
contact  the school  health  office with any  questions  of concems.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Marchioli
